Need some fundraising inspiration? Look no further than Julia Szulerowski! Julia is a fundraising machine- her efforts have helped raise a whopping $40,000 for the Children’s Tumour Foundation! Julia has been battling NF since she was diagnosed at age 20. Although NF has had a big impact on Julia and her family, she doesn’t let it get her down. “I don’t think a day goes by that I don’t think about it or worry about some twinge, ache, new lump,” Julia says, “but I have a good life, a supportive husband, and a beautiful daughter who also battles NF.”
Julia has been an admirer of America’s Cupid’s Undie Run for years, and was thrilled when the Children’s Tumour Foundation of Australia decided to bring the event down under in 2013. “When I heard Cupid’s was coming to Australia, I was so excited!” Julia has participated in Cupid’s Undie Run in Sydney for the past two years and she is planning to strip down to her undies again in 2015! Julia says that her favourite part about Cupid’s is the atmosphere. “It’s lots of fun, full of lots of young people enjoying themselves,” Julia says, “the undies are pretty good too.”

So, what’s Julia’s secret to fundraising? Make it personal to separate yourself from the crowd. Let’s be real, there are many worthy causes out there. But, if you can explain to donors why fighting NF is important to you, you’ll get noticed. Julia suggests personalising your fundraising page, and writing about why your supporting the cause or if you have NF, a little about “your own struggles, about the condition and how unpredictable it can be… stick to the NF facts, use layman’s terms so people can understand.” Julia is also a strong believer in holding fundraising activities to support your efforts, whether it is a garage sale, high tea or a bake sale. Julia must be on to something…did we mention she’s raised $40,000!?
