Troy Scully – Byron Bay Race Director
In February of 2018 I was lucky enough to be involved in the organization and running of Cupid’s Undie Run in Byron Bay. I was taking a class in Event Management at Bond University at the time and we were encouraged to seek out an opportunity in the real world to gain some experience. I emailed the campaign manager Rachel Skelton and was immediately met with enthusiastic optimism which is indicative of everybody I met throughout the process. Rachel gave me all the creative freedom in the world in my role as race director, allowing me to make important decisions with full confidence in my abilities.
The event ran smoothly on the day largely due to the positive attitudes of all involved, both volunteers and participants. Upon the conclusion of the event, I felt extremely proud of what we had created, so much so that merely weeks later I took part in another group project in which myself and four other students ran a charity concert to raise money for The Children’s Tumor Foundation (CTF). When we proposed the event to Rachel we were met with the same enthusiasm as before which is something to be commended.
At the end of the day, my involvement with both CTF and Cupid’s Undie Run has been nothing short of incredible and I cannot speak highly enough of all those involved. If you have the opportunity to get involved with The Children’s Tumor Foundation or Cupid’s Undie Run I highly recommend that you grab it with both hands and run with it as you surely won’t regret it.
