This is Darcy our NF Hero!
Darcy is 5 years old and was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis Type 1 a few days prior to his 1st birthday. He has over 30 café au lait, lisch nodules and freckling. He has seen many health professionals and has had 3 MRI scans. At present, Darcy has identified global developmental delays with his speech, fine motor and gross motor skills. We are now seeing health professionals annually, unless any complications arise. The main fear I have as a parent is that NF is unpredictable and no one is able to tell you what the future will hold. It is very difficult not to get caught up in the “WHAT IFs” however as a family we try to take every happy and healthy day with our Darcy as it comes, and make special memories!
Darcy is the most caring and loving little human being! He has a heart of gold and a smile that lights up the darkest of days. Despite finding some tasks challenging, Darcy puts in 110% effort and will attempt anything and everything until he nails it… This often results in battle wounds but that still won’t slow him down. Darcy started Prep this year and absolutely loves it. He has a great teacher/teacher aide and has fabulous support to help him develop and provide him with the opportunities to reach milestones.
Darcy has a LOVE for garbage trucks, trains and construction vehicles. He also loves to be outside on the trampoline, in the sandpit, in the chook pen, on the swings/slide and riding his bike with his big brother and little sister. Darcy has almost completed his first year of soccer and he looks forward to receiving his very first trophy at the end of the season!
